    2) The drums were beating out (отбивать) a new rhythm

    3) Even in late autumn with the rain beating down, it is nice and cosy.

    4) He had been beaten up (избит) by some hooligans and looked terrible.

    5) I kept beating myself up about the cruel words I had said.

    6) We hardly managed to beat off (отбиться) the hungry seagulls.

    7) The hot African sun was beating down (палило) on our aching heads.
