2. I got a place at Manchester to study Engineering

3. In fact I was awarded a scholarship.

4. But at the end of the first year I changed to another subject.

5. I graduated from university in 1988.

6. I have a first class honours degree in Economics.

7. I decided to stay on at University.

8. So I did a higher degree in business administration at the University of California.

8. I found the topic so interesting that I applied for a grant to do a doctorate on the same subject.

9. Once I had got the money, I had to write a 50,000 word thesis.

10. All I need now is a job.
