They built A garrison there - and - - London was born. They also erected A bridge over THE river. THE Garrison became A major trading post. Later, THE bridge suffered neglect and THE whole area was raided by THE Viking. In 886AD, Alfred THE Great drove out THE raiders, THE bridge was repaired and THE city prospered again.
