As I was walking round the hill,

Not meaning to stay very long.

    I saw a beautiful girl,

Who was singing a wonderful song.

Her hair was long and pretty.

Tied up in a black velvet band.

    Her eyes shone like diamonds.

And she looked like the queen of the land.

I asked her where she was going

And said: "What a wonderful day."

But she said nothing to me, my friend,

And I watched her walking away.
